Maple
Maple fingerboards will (originally) have a finish applied over them to prevent the wood from absorbing moisture and discolouring. As a result, when re-fretting we have to be a little careful whilst removing and replacing the frets. Be it traditional nitrocellulose, a poly lacquer, oil finish or even French polish, as a part of the process we can refinish, or repair the finish as part of the re-fretting service.
Re-lacquer
On a maple fingerboard, there are occasions when we will have no choice but to re-lacquer the fingerboard as part oft he process. The sheen level, a degree of tint to the lacquer and any aging required are fully customise-able. Any aging required. However, would be quoted on a case by case basis.
Rosewood no binding
You’ll find a wide range of rosewoods used on guitar fingerboards. However, far and away the most common type you’re likely to encounter will be East Indian rosewood. It’s a very easy wood to work with and with care can be re-fretted without issue.
Refret
We carry a large range of both Dunlop and Stewmac nickel silver and Jescar stainless steel fret wire. Whatever size of wire and whatever your reason for re-fretting we’ve got you covered. Ebony
Very dense, hard and almost free of grain pores, ebony makes a wonderful material for fingerboards. It is also, however, a more brittle wood than some and as such requires care when removing old frets. Our expertise in working with more brittle woods (see also African Blackwood, wenge etc.) will maintain the glass like smoothness ebony is renowned for.
